A telephone network
anyone can operate.
OpenCarrier.Network is an open, federated telephone network. Run an exchange, own an area code, and participate in one shared numbering space. Calls and messages ride over modern Internet transport; the numbers stay familiar.
The number still matters.
OpenCarrier.Network keeps the familiar North American–style NPA-NXX-XXXX number format. Each exchange owns an NPA (area code) and allocates numbers within it.

Modern underneath.
OCN rebuilds the telephone infrastructure with Internet technology while keeping the usability of the traditional network.
WebRTC voice
Encrypted calls (DTLS-SRTP) between softphones and browsers, with conference rooms mixed on the server.
Federation
Exchanges route to each other through the registry. No central operator controls the network.
Text & image messages
1:1 messaging between OCN numbers, delivered across exchanges with an offline queue.
Identity & mailboxes
Ed25519 kSIM identity with QR provisioning; visual voicemail and 800/900 services.
On the roadmap: SIP/ATA phone interop, PIN/DTMF voicemail boxes, and more exchanges joining the registry.
Run your own server.
OCN is built to be community-operated. You own your infrastructure, your area code, and your numbering space — an individual, a club, a campus, or a hosting provider.
- 1.Run an ocnserver (Go) and point it at the registry.
- 2.Claim an area code from the 200–999 pool and start hosting numbers.
- 3.Provision softphones with QR / deep-link tokens from the admin panel.

The network starts small.
We are building the protocols, server software, and reference clients in the open. The network is live and small; the point is the tools to grow it.
